Fred Norris Offers a Glimpse Into His Daily Life
Sound effects extraordinaire opens up about his routines and friendships
While much is known about the personal lives of many Stern Show staffers, some details about Howard’s longest-tenured companion in the studio, Fred Norris, continue to remain a bit of a mystery. But on Wednesday, he offered listeners a closer look at what exactly happens after he leaves the office.
“Fred, what’s the first thing you do when you get home?” Howard asked.
“Make lunch,” Fred replied matter-of-factly. Usually it consists of chicken and pasta because he likes to get his carbs early in the day.
After lunch Fred finishes up his preparation for the next day’s show before sometimes taking a nap and then going to the gym three days a week.
“I do more bodyweight exercises like pushups, pullups, things of that nature,” he explained. Fred said he could get through 100 pushups at one point and has been working back up to that as of late.
As for his social life, Fred indicated that he mostly spends time with his wife. Past that, he occasionally attends concerts with Steve Brandano, but feels closest to Gary Dell’Abate and Jon Hein on the staff.
Robin recalled Fred having a bit of a bromance with Gary back in the WNBC days, but Howard joked that the then-unmarried sound effects extraordinaire was too much to handle for either of them. “I can’t take care of a plant let alone Fred,” he said with a laugh.
Howard wondered if this was a result of Fred’s upbringing in an area where “the human contact he had was not very good.”
“People that make Bigfoot look erudite,” Fred offered in agreement.
