Acclaimed disc jockey Dan Ingram, whose lengthy career in radio went back to the ’60s, passed away at 83 on Sunday.
On Tuesday, Howard remembered his radio predecessor, who was
known for his Top 40 broadcasts on WABC-AM and later coverage of the oldies on WCBS-FM.
Ingram may not have been the biggest fan of the Stern Show,
but Howard expressed respect for the late D.J. and his talk-up style.
As a kid, Howard recalled hearing Ingram and his
contemporaries on the radio, but said he always yearned to create a different
type of program. “I wanted to go on the radio and turn it into TV, like have a
show and crazy characters,” he said. “I didn’t want to go on the radio and play
records.”
