“He took my work of art and really revamped it into a beautiful, beautiful ballad,” Howard says of “Mr. Jones” singer’s rendition
Artists as wide-ranging as Jewel, Gwar, and Donie Vie of Enuff Z’Nuff have all covered Howard’s songs in the past and now another rocker can be added to the list — Counting Crows frontman and frequent Stern Show guest Adam Duritz.
On Tuesday, Howard revealed the singer recently tackled “Metamucil Man,” the track he recorded with his band Tuchus earlier this year. “He recognized the genius of it, and he said he wanted to do a cover,” Howard explained. “He kind of outdid me … he took my work of art and really revamped it into a beautiful, beautiful ballad.”
Upon hearing the new version, co-host Robin Quivers was blown away. “He really highlighted every word,” she observed. “It’s not like he tried to hide what the song is about — he sang it out.”
“The guy sings like an angel,” Howard agreed. “I don’t think the Counting Crows are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and that to me is criminal.”
